I can't believe I leave for Nevis in just a few days. I've barely started to pack. But it's not surprising, I tend to procrastinate a little bit.
I'm about to leave for the island of Nevis in the Caribbean. Nevis is part of the country St. Kitts and Nevis, whose capital is Basseterre. The island is located about 220 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. It belonged to the British until 1983, so the official language is English. It's on the ECT- Eastern Caribbean Time Zone, which is an hour ahead of Standard time, but doesn't celebrate daylight savings time. So essentially, I'll be on the same time zone as the east coast. Everything I know about Nevis I learned from Wikipedia, so feel free to check it out. And CIA World Factbook. Classic.
The program lasts for five weeks and I'll receive credit for two classes: Fundamentals of Archaeological Research and Caribbean Archaeology. We dig from 7am to 1pm every day, take a break from 1-3, and then be in a classroom or lab from 3-6. We're staying at the Hurricane Cove Bungalows, which look incredible. Plus I get to use the word bungalow. Bungalow, bungalow, bungalow. Needless to say, I'm excited.
Me and my Marshalltown trowel!
My flight leaves at the crack of dawn Wednesday morning. I'll fly to Miami, and then on to St. Kitts, and then take a ferry over to Nevis. Hopefully I'll get there by mid-afternoon and have some time to settle in!
The first half of this summer has been really fun. Auburn, Nashville, and Cleveland. I spent most of my time in Atlanta, which is a really awesome place to be. But I'm ready for my adventure. I guess I should go pack, hopefully next time I post I'll be in the Caribbean!
